In most states in Australia, there don’t appear to be restrictions around the breed of dog you can legally use to hunt game with.
However, did you know that in Victoria, the Game Management Authority has a list of gundogs, hounds and deer dogs that you can use to hunt? That means dogs outside of this list are not permitted to be used to hunt game in Victoria.
Here is the current list of dog breeds that are permitted to be used for hunting game in Victoria as published in Schedule 5, Regulation 5 of the Wildlife (Game) Regulations 2012, S.R. No. 99/2012:
It is important that you understand the laws and regulations when hunting, failure to do so may see you paying hefty fines or facing other ramifications that could affect your game and/or firearms licences.
Happy hunting and keep yourself and your gundog safe!
